Soccer girls beat Vikings

Despite the rain, the La Conner Lady Braves beat the Orcas Island Vikings 2-1 today.

Week of September 15



 Murder Victim - Teagan, a 9-year-old wire-haired dachshund was viciously mauled to death in his own front yard in Shelter Bay. Unsupervised domestic dogs are suspected to be the culprits.

Like he did every evening at bedtime, little Teagan, a 9-year-old miniature wire-haired dachshund ran outside to relieve himself. He was always finished and back inside in moments. But on Saturday, Sept. 4, about 5 minutes had passed, when the dog's owners went outside looking for him. right there in the yard of their Shelter Bay home, Rebecca and Gil Bolstad found their little dog's lifeless body.

For being more than two-thirds of the way through its projected lifespan, Rainbow Bridge is showing signs of age, but engineers say it should last for many more years. In April, a crew of state and county inspectors caused traffic delays as the bridge was examined inch by inch. In Washington, the state tries to inspect bridges about every two years. By the end of this year, the state expects to complete inspections on 1,960 bridges. Inspectors look at the integrity of every bridge component--the concrete, paint, and every bolt.

Tailgate party Saturday
The La Conner High School Booster Club will serve its annual tailgate party supper on Saturday, Sept. 18, before the Braves football team faces off against Adna Pirates. Game time is 6 p.m. at La Conner stadium. But get there early to have barbecue beef sandwiches with Caesar salad, corn on the cob, chips and a brownie. The Boosters will start serving at 4 p.m. the price is $7 for adults, and $5 for students, and the food usually goes fast.
