Tribe seeks industrial zone in neighborhood
The La Conner Town Council could decide on Tuesday to allow a change to the town’s comprehensive plan that would designate land in the Caledonia Street neighborhood for industrial use.
The 5½ acres is presently zoned for commercial use and is owned by the Upper Skagit Indian Tribe which bought the land in 2009 for its fishing operation. Upper Skagit has recently requested that the zoning be changed to industrial.

Shakespeare Festival starts on July 7. Check out their website for the details.

From the Police Blotter:

Weekly La Conner High Sports capsule, June 8, 2011

La Conner High School year is winding down.

The spring sports teams, Baseball, Fastpitch and Track all made it to the state level competition. Soccer, Basketball and Volleyball did the same earlier in the year.

Already, Football Coach Johnny Lee is working to get the fall Football team into shape. Several of the boys, including some incoming freshmen, competed in a football passing leagues tournament in Bellingham on Saturday. Competing with a handful of students against much larger Squalicum High and Lakewood High, we came in a solid third in most categories. But the boys had a great time.
