Weekly La Conner High Sports capsule, June 8, 2011

La Conner High School year is winding down.

The spring sports teams, Baseball, Fastpitch and Track all made it to the state level competition. Soccer, Basketball and Volleyball did the same earlier in the year.

Already, Football Coach Johnny Lee is working to get the fall Football team into shape. Several of the boys, including some incoming freshmen, competed in a football passing leagues tournament in Bellingham on Saturday. Competing with a handful of students against much larger Squalicum High and Lakewood High, we came in a solid third in most categories. But the boys had a great time.

The team’s awards banquet was Monday, June 6. This year, all thirteen team members will receive their varsity letter.  The girls voted amongst themselves for top honors: most valuable player, Samie Miller; most inspirational player, Alissa McCoy; most improved player, Taylor Edwards; sportsmanship awards to Aubrey Stewart and Kelley McClung.  Team captains were Galena Graham, Lauren McClung, Samie Miller, and Kaitlyn Summers
