Water rates could climb -- By Sandy Stokes

What goes up and never comes down? You guessed it -- utility bills.
The La Conner Town Council will start talking about new water and sewer rates for 2011, but this time it looks like the rate increase will be smaller than the ones in January 2010 and April 2009.
A typical bill for an average single family La Conner home would be around $2 higher next year under a rate formula the town is working on now.

Art is sustenance at Tweets  -- By Anna Ferdinand
To some, tweets represent the state of our world today -- the noisy cacophony of individual thoughts, a stream of consciousness sent out with a click of a button -- individuality gone haywire with digital messages in cyberspace.
But Tweets in Edison is the antithesis of tweets on Twitter.

Monday JV Football

The La Conner Braves faced off with the Lummi High School Blackhawks in a Junior Varsity match that pleased the fans on both sides. The final score was 24 Braves, 28 Lummi.
The Braves were running like a well-tuned blue machine. Two times the Braves denied Lummi the extra points after scores.
Lummi made some made some excellent plays, but the Braves kept the pressure on until the final seconds of the game.

Saturday football

The game was actually a lot closer than it appeared on the scoreboard Saturday night when the La Conner Braves faced off against the defending state champs, the Adna Pirates.
Despite the Pirate's 23-0 win, the Braves gave the fans in blue lots to cheer about. The Braves played what appeared to be their best game so far this season with the defense keeping the Pirates away from the goal line time after time.
