We're down to the last turkey

Poor Old Tom. Writer M.Sharon Baker has the saga of Tom, one of two feathered fugitives who was still at large in La Conner until last week. During the last turkey chase, Tom was well ahead of the dip net wielding Public Works crew members when he collided with a motor home from Canada. The ordeal left him a sitting duck for  the turkey netters who whisked him off to the La Conner Turkey Detention Center, where he appears to be thriving.

Hat Construction: Today's paper has Journalist Mary Evitt's updater on the new construction at Swinomish. The three pavilions at the tribe's Swadabs Park are nearing completion. They are being built to resemble huge Coast Salish cedar hats and will be the welcoming place for the 2011 Canoe Journey, Paddle to Swinomish which is expected to bring more than 100 traditional Native American family canoes and some 20,000 visitors to town in July.
Fire Battalion Chief terminated
The Fire District 13 Commission voted unanimously Tuesday evening to fire Battalion Chief Doug Avery, who has been a volunteer with the district since 1982 -- it's in today's paper.

From the Police Blotter:
2:55 p.m.: Birdie call – A La Conner resident sought advice on what to do about a person who displays an obscene hand gesture toward him whenever they pass each other. Deputies provided information regarding harassment laws and options for court orders.
