Braves Raves

HOME GAMES
The Braves and Lady Braves host Orcas Island on Thursday, April 14. Boys game starts at 3 p.m., girls at 4:30 p.m. On Friday, April 15, Cedar Park comes up from Mount Lake Terrace for a boys’ baseball double-header. First game starts at 3:30 p.m., second game at 5 p.m.
WHISTLER CUP
Sixth grade student Anna Bruce, who represented the province of British Columbia at the 19th annual Whistler Cup on April 8 through 10, finished a very respectable 12th in the K1 Slalom in the final day of Whistler cup. She competed among 57 elite girl skiers from across the globe, such as Japan, Slovakia, Canada, New Zealand, Austria, Croatia, and Czechoslovakia. 
Bruce was awarded the K1 Excellence award by the Sun Peaks Racers, her home team.
The Whistler Cup, held at the Whistler-Blackcomb ski resort, is an international competition for elite 11 to 15year old skiers from 25 countries across the globe.  Anna’s division is the K1, which is for boys and girls ages 11and 12. This year, 450 skiers participated.
According to a press release dated Sunday, April 10, the U.S. was the top nation in the K2 age-category but Canada led the way in K1 and took the overall Nations' Cup title with 306 points. Team USA was second with 212 points and Japan was third, with 164 points.
TRACK AND FIELD
The Braves traveled to Lopez High school on Friday, April 8 for a four-school meet: Lopez, La Conner, Mount Vernon Christian and Cedar Park.
Sten Mejlaender won first in the 110 m. 39” hurdles in 16.66, and first in the 300 m. 36” hurdles, with a time of 42.18.
Nate Sybrandy won first place in the 800 m. race, in 2:20.85, and second in the 1600 m. in 4:55.00, his personal best.  Brandon Drye won first in the 1.6 kg. discus.  Landy James won first in the high jump, leaping 5’10”.  Jamall James took second in the 110 m. 39” hurdles, in 17.33, second in the 36” 300 m hurdles, in 45.06, and second in the high jump, jumping 5’9”.  Conner Anderson won second in the 100 meter race with a time of 12.06, his personal best. Todd Hoagland won second in the 400 m. in 54.96 seconds. Sam Traylor won second in the 3200 m. race, in 11:20.8.
The four man team of Nate Sybrandy, Conner Anderson, Sten Mejlaender and Todd Hoagland won first in the 4x400 relay, in 3:50.5. Conner Anderson, Todd Hoagland, Sten Mejlaender, and Wylie Thulen won second in the 4x100 with a time of 49.96.
Priscilla Ponce-Venegas won first in the 30” 300 m. hurdles a full 6.44 seconds ahead of the runner-up, and also won first in the 600 g. javelin, throwing 92’4.00”. Ponce-Venegas beat her own personal best for the second meet in a row, this time by 2’2”; her throw has improved 9’5” since the season began.
Emily Anderson won the 33” 100 m. hurdles in 18.19 seconds and leapt 4’6” to earn second place in the high jump. Anderson has beat her personal best each meet so far this season; the most recent 0.18 seconds faster than the previous best and has shaved 1.7 seconds off of her time since the season began.
Lydia Lenning won first in the 3200 m. race in 14:24:25 and second in the 1600 m. in 6:27.08.  Katie McKnight won first place in the 200 m. in 29.28 seconds. Sammie Mesman won first in the 1600 m. race with a time of 6:21.61.
La Conner won first place in the 4x100 relay;.  Emily Anderson, Madi Cavanaugh, Katie McKnight and Priscilla Ponce-Venegas won the 4x100 in 54.76.
